Num Pang is a sandwich shop that makes some really delicious sandwiches. I implore you to check them out. Try to get there early as a line forms quickly. Take a look at the menu before heading there as you wont get much time to read it entirely before having to order.

This extremely popular and small restaurant located on 9th Ave between W 51st and W 52nd street has some really delicious empanadas. I happened to stumble upon them after doing a few loops around central park on my bike, and heading down 9th ave where they happened to have a spot set up outside their restaurant during a street fair. I ordered a few and sat down. The first few bites really wowed me. I made a mental note to come back and actually eat at the restaurant. And I did.
Be prepared to wait for a table if you happen to go during prime eating hours. Their reasonably priced empanadas bring the crowds, but this small establishment cannot seat enough at a time. Combining the amount of people wanting to eat in with a ton of delivery and take out requests leads to the kitchen being overwhelmed at times. My suggestion is to either go at a off time, or if the weather is nice, order it to go, and walk a little bit to Central Park and eat your meal there. Of course if you live nearby order delivery.
Also… if possible, check if the order given to you is actually your order. I ended up taking home a completely different order once. They were nice enough though to offer my original order on the house the next time I go in because of the mix-up.
Now I have actually never ordered anything from them other than the empanadas… mostly because I don’t feel the need to. I can share with you my favorites though.
- Spicy Chicken (warning: quite spicy, not for the faint hearted)
- Hawaiian (Ham, Pineapple, Cheese… delicious)
- Guava + Cheese (Desert empanada!)
Hope you check them out!

Pio Pio is a Peruvian restaurant with many locations in the NYC area. They are best known for their marinated whole chicken (and for a good reason). The chicken is absolutely delicious. I personally ate an entire chicken in one sitting (and it wasn’t a small chicken)… it was just that delicious. The dining experience is very family style oriented, with large platters perfect for sharing among friends and family. If you haven’t eaten at Pio Pio before then I suggest you get some friends together and go!
